About Company

The Arab-American Family Support Center empowers new immigrants with the tools they need to successfully acclimate to the world around them and become active participants in their communities. The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-sectarian organization. Established in 1994, AAFSC is the first and largest Arabic-speaking trauma-informed social service agency in New York City. AAFSC is headquartered in Brooklyn, home to the highest number of New York City's recent Arab immigrants. As a settlement house and member of United Neighborhood Houses (UNH), AAFSC has taken the initiative in providing culturally, linguistically and religiously sensitive services to members of immigrant communities throughout the five boroughs. We serve nearly 6,000 low-income people each year through seven main programs: the Preventive Services Program, Adult Education Program, Youth Program, Legal Services Program, Health Program, Anti-Violence Program and Disaster Relief Services Program. As the leading provider of social services to the Arab-American community, our agency has a strong commitment to providing services in a culturally competent manner. Our full time staff members speak Arabic, Bengali, English, Farsi, French, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Tibetan, Nepali, Portuguese and Spanish and all understand the cultural nuances necessary to complete their work. Our programs are designed to empower and strengthen the Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian (AMEMSA) communities, while creating an environment of tolerance and understanding for all nationalities and beliefs. We are continuously expanding and enhancing our services to better fit the needs of New York City's ever-changing AMEMSA communities. Accordingly, in October 2012, AAFSC opened a new office Queens in response to the growing demand for our services and to further expand our programmatic outreach. After Brooklyn, Queens is home to the second largest population of Arab immigrants in New York City, according to the NYC Department of City Planning.
