There are three common areas of compliance-related concern among the centers with which we partner: Rehabilitation Services Compliance Concern 1: PEPPER Reports The Program for Evaluating Payment Patterns Electronic Report, commonly known as the PEPPER report, is one common source of questions for SNFs. This report offers provider-specific data from Medicare about services and resident discharges that may be vulnerable to improper payments. The report is beneficial to centers because it highlights areas in which a specific center is an outlier and can point out areas for potential overpayment and underpayment. The complexity of the PEPPER report, though, can make it seem difficult to interpret. "We partner with our customers to obtain this data from CMS," says Tracy Maxwell, Chief Operating Officer for Apex Rehab. "Once we've received the report, we audit any areas identified in the report and help centers determine how to improve."
