Founded in 1963, Ann Martin Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit community clinic that provides treatment services and testing services: psychotherapy, educational therapy, psychological and educational testing to youth and adults. The Center sponsors lectures for educators and mental health professionals, and offers training in the specialty of child psychotherapy. The agency is named in memory of Ann Martin, MD, a pioneering behavioral pediatrician and youth advocate. Dr. Martin was among the first in California to lead research on psychological and educational intervention for social-emotional problems in childhood. We have a multi-disciplinary staff that includes masters level learning specialists (most with a credential in educational therapy), psychologists, social workers, and marriage family therapists. The Center assists over 1,000 youth and adults annually through 30,000 hours of treatment services. Families are primarily from Alameda County with 71 percent living in Oakland. About 55 percent of our clients are African-American, Latino, or Asian. As of the spring in 2013, our clinic is now located in Emeryville. We also operate school-based mental health programs in nine Oakland elementary schools. Ann Martin Center is funded by government contracts with Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services Agency, foundation grants, private donations, and client fees.
