Founded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1992, After-School All-Stars is the leading national provider of high quality, comprehensive, school-based after-school programs that include independent learning, academics, and enrichment. The organization's mission is to keep children safe and help them achieve in school and in life. More than 60,000 at-risk youth benefit from these programs in 13 U.S. cities: Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, San Antonio, San Diego, San Jose and South Florida.
They do business with integrity and rational thinking. Overall, it's an excellent place to work, with products that are winning in the marketplace.
Having recently stepped into this position within the Human Resources Department, I have found that After-School All-Stars truly values its employees as more than just employees. From the initial stages of interviewing, to the onboarding process, and now within my day to day operations, I have felt welcomed and supported in embracing my new role. This is due to All-Star's open flow of communication, and appreciation of the expertise its employees bring to the table. After-School All-Stars values a work-life blend philosophy, which coming from a background of being socialized to think that I must always work beyond the point of over-exertion, is a great relief. ASAS understands that in order to be fully present and carry out the work that we do, which all ultimately goes to servicing our youth, its employees must be of sound mind and body. It offers great holiday and PTO benefits as well as 40 hours of additional flex-time per year, to be used as an employee sees fit. Another way I have seen All Star's values in action has been in the navigation of the recent and utterly tragic passing of Kobe Bryant, a former and long-time ambassador to ASAS, and a staple to our L.A. culture. ASAS held space for us to grieve, share stories, and have a moment of silence for our fallen hero and those lives lost in the incident; I was incredibly touched by this act because it goes to show how the leaders at All-Stars value the state of our well-being, as well have as a deep understanding of community issues. That said, I am looking forward to grow my career as a part of this organization!
I have no cons as of yet.
